High TG PCB Advanced Circuit Specification

The glass transition temperature of a PCB, called "Tg", indicates the point at which the PCB material will begin to transition. If the operating temperature exceeds the specified Tg value, the board will start to change from solid to liquid, which is likely to adversely affect its function.

Standard PCBs are fabricated from materials with a TG value of 140°C and can withstand an operating temperature of 110°C. Although this may not apply to extreme temperature processes commonly found in applications such as automotive, industrial or high temperature electronics. What is FR-4?

FR-4 is the grade designation for flame retardant glass fiber reinforced epoxy materials. Therefore, FR-4 PCBs offer a higher level of thermal resistance than standard PCBs. FR-4 boards are divided into four categories based on the number of copper trace layers found in the material:
