Thermal conductivity in lighting:

Thermal conductivity can be critical to dissipating heat from an LED board.


Standard FR4 material has the lowest thermal conductivity at about 0.3W/MK.


Standard CEM3 material thermal conductivity is generally higher than average FR4 material thermal conductivity. However, there are also unique CEM-3 materials with an even higher thermal conductivity of 1,0-1,2W/MK (usually, CEM-3 materials have lower flexural strength and higher thermal expansion than FR4, so CEM -3 has lower mechanical durability compared to FR4).


The thermal conductivity of standard aluminum is generally higher than the average thermal conductivity of typical FR4 and CEM-3, around 1,0-2,2W/MK (or even higher).
